The Ibarra Project marked another meaningful milestone on August 30, 2026, with Technology for Education: Laptop Distribution Day in Doña Osang, Tinambac, Camarines Sur.

The event served as the first gathering between the new scholars and members of The Ibarra Project team. The scholars introduced themselves, shared their future plans and career goals, exchanged ideas, reviewed and signed their scholar contracts, and received laptops to support their studies and educational journey.

First Meeting with the New Ibarra Scholars

The Ibarra Project held its Technology for Education: Laptop Distribution Day on August 30, 2026, bringing together project representatives and the newest Ibarra scholars for the first time.

Present at the gathering were El Villamora, Executive Director of The Ibarra Project; Juvelyn Asug, Lead Coordinator; and Danica Rosadiño, a former Ibarra Project scholar. They welcomed the new scholars: Jhon Mark Pojo, Elyssa Vale, Laica Jene Zamudio, and Lira Dianne Barnobal.

Getting to Know One Another

The gathering began with introductions, giving everyone an opportunity to get to know one another beyond names and scholarship details. For the new scholars, it was their first chance to personally meet members of the Ibarra Project team and hear from someone who had previously experienced the program as a scholar.

The scholars also shared their future plans, including what they hope to become and the goals they want to work toward. The conversation allowed everyone to exchange ideas, learn more about each scholar's aspirations, and begin building a stronger connection as part of the Ibarra Project community.

Looking Ahead to Their Future

Education is about more than completing today's assignments. During the gathering, the scholars shared some of the goals they hope to pursue as they continue their studies.

Among the aspirations shared were dreams of becoming teachers and helping others learn. One scholar expressed an interest in becoming an Assistant Language Teacher, or pursuing a similar role that would allow them to teach another language. Another hopes to become a teacher while also pursuing public service and finding ways to help the community.

Another scholar, currently pursuing studies in the marine field, also shared an interest in psychology and the possibility of helping people experiencing mental health challenges. One of the scholars is currently studying computer science as they continue exploring the path they want to take.

Although their interests and career paths are different, their aspirations reflect something they share: the hope of using their education not only to build their own futures, but also to contribute to the lives of others.

Reviewing and Signing the Scholar Contracts

As part of the day's activities, the scholars reviewed their scholarship contract papers with the Ibarra Project team before signing them.

The review provided an opportunity to discuss the agreement, clarify expectations, and make sure the scholars understood their responsibilities as participants in the program. Once the review was completed, each scholar signed the necessary documents.

The Laptop Distribution

Following the contract signing came one of the highlights of the event: the distribution of laptops to the scholars.

The laptops give the students an important tool to support their education, whether they are completing assignments, conducting research, preparing school projects, accessing learning materials, or developing the digital skills they will need as they continue their studies.

One of the laptops distributed during the event was donated by Juvelyn Asug, now the Lead Coordinator of The Ibarra Project and herself a former Ibarra scholar. For the organization, her contribution made the occasion especially meaningful. A former scholar returning to help provide an educational tool for a new scholar is a powerful example of the spirit of giving back that The Ibarra Project hopes to inspire.

Her donation represents more than a laptop. It shows how an opportunity given to one student can eventually become an opportunity passed on to another.

Sharing a Meal and Building Connections

The day was not only about paperwork and laptops. Everyone also had time to enjoy food together, continue their conversations, and get to know one another in a more relaxed setting.

These simple moments are an important part of building relationships between the scholars and the people supporting them. The gathering marked the beginning of a new chapter for the newest members of the Ibarra Project community.

Supporting the Journey of Ibarra Scholars

The laptop distribution was an important milestone, but it also marked the beginning of a continuing relationship with the new scholars as they pursue their educational goals.

That support comes in different forms. This year, Lance Luke became a big-time supporter of The Ibarra Project, helping strengthen its educational efforts and provide resources for its scholars. El Villamora also provided generous financial support, continuing to help create meaningful opportunities and resources for the scholars.

Bing Borja, Co-Founder and Core Sponsor, provided the project’s first major funding for computers and financial support. He continues to play an important role in helping provide scholars with educational opportunities and resources.

And sometimes, that support comes full circle. Juvelyn Asug, a former Ibarra scholar, gave back by donating a laptop to support the new scholars. Her contribution is especially meaningful because it reflects one of the values at the heart of The Ibarra Project: helping young people move forward with the hope that, one day, they may be in a position to help someone else do the same.

The scholars' goals may lead them in different directions, whether through teaching, public service, new fields of study, or helping others. Through continued guidance, encouragement, and access to educational tools, The Ibarra Project looks forward to seeing Jhon Mark, Elyssa, Laica Jene, and Lira Dianne grow, pursue their individual goals, and someday carry that same spirit of giving forward.
